Philosophy: With a calm, healthy mind, anything is possible. My approach is based on Buddhist principles of vipassana and studies of human brain ( neuropsychology). My Velvet Mind combines elements of my personal practice of mindfulness and meditation . I have meditation teacher certificates issued both in Canada and US.
My interest in meditation and mindfulness stems from the period of my life when the darkness and lack of will dominated my days. It is also, that during time that I discovered mindfulness and Thich Nhat Hanh writings. At first, I was very suspicious, I gave it a try. It was an eye opening experience. You cannot be aware of the things you did not know existed. Somebody had to point them out to me. Finally I decided to share my knowledge and experience with the others and start to feed my personal passion.
Experience: I coached people struggling with body image, unsuccessful diets in Mindfulness Eating and in Mindful Nutrition helping them regain control over their eating habits and pessimistic views. During the covid pandemic, I saw many instances of hunger for hugs and closeness - misinterpreted as hunger for sweet treats, soft fresh baked bread and ice cream. Many found themselves gaining inches and becoming more unhappy.
My previous professional experience (over twenty years) allowed me to observe people's reaction during deeply challenging situations. I worked as financial advisor during difficult times in 1995 ( Quebec referendum), 2001 (Tech Bubble Crash) and 2008 (Financial Crisis). I observed people who were traumatized and had no ability to continue a regular life. Meditation at that time allowed me to stay strong and decisive.
Approach: I can help you to develop a personalized plan to know yourself better. However, you will need to put the effort into it. We shall embark on this journey together over the course of 5 weekly 45 min. sessions. During these sessions will discover and learn how to use the tools like "labelling", "spotlighting" or "body scan". Mindful Eating session will use the tools that will help you with identifying the source of hunger or decrease the cravings " surfing the wave".
